Kim Campbell — Principal Photographer
An Oregon native, Kim Campbell is a wife, mother and widely-respected photographer who delights in finding beauty in nature, people, and life’s special moments.
Her interest in photography began while a student at the University of Oregon. Having always been a visual person, she found she loved the way photographs allowed her to create images that evoked emotion. While at the U of O she met and married her best friend, partner and fellow photographer - Francisco Salgado.
Kim began photographing for Campbell Salgado Studio in 1997, catering to both expectant and growing families. In the years since, she has designed many of the product lines and ventures with which the studio is involved. With Kim Campbell at the helm, Campbell Salgado Studio has been dubbed “Best Mom ‘n’ Pop Photographers” by Willamette Week and was named “Audience Choice” winner in the 2007 Best of Citysearch awards. Additionally, Kim’s award-winning photography has been featured in both Popular Photography, Shots and American Photo magazines.
In 2008 and 2009 she was selected for an Honorable Mention in American Photo Images of the Year Competition for 12 different fine art images. Delving into psychological art portraits has been an ongoing side project.
Outside of the studio, Kim’s intuitive networking and business skills lead her to become a founding member of MotherSource.org. MotherSource.org is a local group of mother-owned businesses, linked professionally by a common thread of services centering around holistic family well-being.
Campbell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Oregon, and a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Marylhurst University.
My philosophy
I'm often told I have the patience of a Saint from parents with excited and rambunctious children. I think there's more to it than that. Each challenge I face as a photographer is an opportunity to learn a new skill plus I simply love being around people. The uniqueness of each new family I meet is the greatest gift towards having an interesting life. As a portrait photographer I'm granted these wonderful opportunities on a regular basis.
My current work focuses on employing children in the creation of allegorical portraits in the El Corazón series. In the embrace of my multi-cultural family I’ve developed a perspective as an art photographer that intermingles nostalgic imagery, fantasy and archetypes from Mexican and American cultures. This is a photograph of my son Tamaio taken in the El Corazon™ signature look. To see more of my work, including the outside-the-box El Corazón™ portrait series, visit my personal art website.
