A love letter from Francisco

Dear Kim,

You are one of the most talented people I know. When we met as students, and soon thereafter fell in love, I was moved by the incredible talent and versatility you displayed in every discipline you encountered: knitting, guitar, gardening; you’re a natural.

As an art therapist you were this warm, friendly, supportive person that people trusted and wanted to know. When you became a photographer you combined your knowledge of human behavior with the art of making extraordinary portraits. You’re able to bring forth emotions in the faces of your subjects that are powerful and evocative.

I learn so much from you—about connecting with our clients and creating an inviting and safe environment during a session. I borrow from your remarkable repertoire and patience with kids, and from your graceful relationship with my daughter and our own son.

I constantly redefine myself in terms of the words I use to describe you: paragon, tenderness, happiness, extraordinary, beautiful, smart, friend, funny...

You make my heart beat quickly, and are the light that guides me through tempestuous waters. I could not dream of being happy and successful without you.

Lovingly,
Francisco

My philosophy

Professional Portland Photographers Kim Campbell and Francisco SalgadoI'm often told I have the patience of a Saint from parents with excited and rambunctious children. I think there's more to it than that. Each challenge I face as a photographer is an opportunity to learn a new skill plus I simply love being around people. The uniqueness of each new family I meet is the greatest gift towards having an interesting life. As a portrait photographer I'm granted these wonderful opportunities on a regular basis.

Portland artistic children's photography - El Corazon portrait of a boy by Kim CampbellMy current work focuses on employing children in the creation of allegorical portraits in the El Corazón series. In the embrace of my multi-cultural family I’ve developed a perspective as an art photographer that intermingles nostalgic imagery, fantasy and archetypes from Mexican and American cultures. This is a photograph of my son Tamaio taken in the El Corazon™ signature look. To see more of my work, including the outside-the-box El Corazón™ portrait series, visit my personal art website.
